Meet Joa & Connie
Dear
Birthparent(s) –
We are so
thankful you are considering adoption. We know this must be a difficult
but courageous journey to walk, with many ups and downs. We pray that
God will guide you and give you peace in it.
Connie grew
up on a farm in South Dakota. Joaquim (Joa) grew up in a large city in
Brazil. We met in college and married almost 8 years ago. We have gone
through some wonderful times and some heartbreaking times together. One
of those heartbreaking times was finding out Connie would not be able to
get pregnant. This was so sad and hard for us to find out. But family
and friends surrounded and supported us, loved us, and mourned with us.
After grieving our loss, we moved on to adoption. We do desire a family
and know that God has someone out there whose lives we can bless through
adoption—hopefully both you and the child! Our extended families are
just as excited as we are about adoption.
Joa
currently works in Dallas as a counselor for an addictions recovery
clinic. He is also working on his PhD in marriage and family counseling
and would like to teach someday. The first thing that attracted Connie
to him was the way he easily related to anyone. He is kind, intelligent,
faithful and has a great sense of humor. It is so fun to see him play
with our nieces and nephews and know that he will be a wonderful and
involved father someday. Connie currently works part-time as an
accounting assistant but is looking forward to being a stay at home mom
fulltime. Connie is a detail-oriented girl and works well behind the
scenes. The first thing that attracted Joa to her was her kindness. She
has a tender heart for those who are hurting and is waiting to see how
God is going to use that. She is empathetic, competent, and a wonderful
listener.
In our
spare time, we love to have weekly date nights, watch movies, get
together with friends, read books, and we love to take our dog, George,
on walks in our neighborhood. It’s a safe neighborhood where we usually
see other families out enjoying the weather. We live in a house with a
big backyard, and the nursery is all ready for a little one! We do like
to travel and try to get away together once a year. We also visit
Connie’s family in South Dakota and Joa’s family in Brazil. We do
realize with the two cultures – American and Brazilian – our lives won’t
look the same as a typical American family. But we appreciate that and
the way our different cultural backgrounds blend together to help us
have a wider world vision, and know that will provide unique
opportunities for any child in our home.
Thank you
again for your courage and willingness to consider adoption and to
search for a family for your child. How emotional and hard this must be!
This speaks of your great, great love for your child. Don’t forget that!
Blessings,
Joa and Connie
